Open all year round
Since 1985, every year in July Radio France has held its festival throughout France, especially in Montpellier. This festival takes place all over the city, in gardens and concert halls, in squares and in the streets, and puts on an extremely varied musical programme which includes operas, symphonic concerts, chamber music, jazz and world music, for instance. This great cultural mix is a good chance for a wide variety of audiences – both fresh converts and experts – to meet and share musical emotions in the special setting of an "open city" at a Mediterranean latitude!
What makes the Radio France festival special is that it takes over the whole city. Although most of the concerts are free, some non-free evening events are held in prestigious venues such as the Opéra Berlioz. The Radio France festival is therefore an opportunity not only to enjoy a high-quality musical programme combining established names and rising stars (groups and soloists), but also to go on a real voyage of discovery through the city. Each concert is the perfect excuse to explore a district, streets, square or location in the city of Montpellier and combine sight-seeing and music-loving.
We had decided to enjoy as many concerts as possible during the Radio France festival in Montpellier. So, we booked a room at the Royal Hôtel and it was the best choice of hotel for us. Everything is within walking distance – the tramway, taxis and bikes, as the hotel is located in the centre of Montpellier. What could be more convenient? Thanks to the hotel’s outstanding location, we were able to go to lots of concerts. And as the hotel and room were really comfortable, we were well rested each day for our long walks in the city. The staff were very friendly and recommended some good little restaurants nearby. We have nothing but good memories!
