Open all year round
Since 2010, thousands of runners have been meeting in Montpellier to take up the challenge of the ultimate long-distance running event: the marathon. The Montpellier Marathon route winds its way through the metropolis, from the heart of the city to the sea, and passes through neighbouring towns. The Montpellier Marathon is a personal challenge and a renowned sporting event that qualifies participants for the French championships, while also allowing them to have a fantastic trip to Montpellier and its surroundings (even if at a rushed pace!). It is also a chance to see the beauty of the city and discover its historical depth, having been founded just before the year 1000.
While the marathon is the main event of the day, it is still fairly difficult to enter without careful preparation and good discipline all year long. Other races are open on the same day: the half-marathon (21 km), the relay marathon (for four to six people), the Nordic walking (8 km) and even the kids’ races (500 and 1,500 metres) so that the whole family can join in.
The Royal Hôtel allows you to easily stay in the heart of Montpellier, close to all the race starting points, ensuring you are fresh and all set on the big day.
A strategic location and a particularly comfortable choice of rooms to recover from the race and enjoy the city centre:
the Royal Hôtel reception team will be happy to advise you on nice places to spend the evening in the area.
Fans of running and sport in general are spoilt for choice in Montpellier, with numerous events taking place throughout the year.
. Montpellier Urban Trail: 15 km night race. Costume required! Every year in Ma
. The Montpellier 20 km: "Running for non-runners." A charity race with a humanitarian aim, with all profits going to Handisport

We’ve been running in the Montpellier Marathon for three years now. And every year we book our room at the Royal Hôtel which is really well located and gives you easy access to all the race sites. The rooms are really comfortable and you can recover nicely after the effort of the marathon! We usually spend a few days here to fully enjoy Montpellier. And here too, everything is easily accessible from the Royal Hôtel as all the bus, tramway and bike stations are located nearby.
